How does microneedling work?
Microneedling (collagen induction therapy) works by stimulating the immune system and wound-healing mechanisms. As the microneedles penetrate the skin causing micro wounds, it triggers an intense inflammatory reaction that naturally stimulates your body’s own collagen & elastin production.
The wound is rebuilt with new granulation cells, which are part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops. The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues, collagen, elastin and blood vessels.
You want a provider who has extensive education in clean needle technique, training in sanitization and a biohazard sharps container. Our acupuncturist holds both state & national Clean Needle Technique certificates. We use sterile anti-backflow needle cartridges to protect against cross contamination. Each needle cartridge is used only once for a single microneedling session and then discarded into the biohazard sharps container. When it comes to needles and your face, you want a trained acupuncturist, dermatologist or nurse doing your procedure.

PREPARING FOR YOUR MICRONEEDLING SESSION
Things to know before you schedule:
Please avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication, drinking alcohol, or taking fish oil tablets for the three days before your microneedling treatment, as this will help minimize bleeding.
No facial waxing within 48 hours prior to microneedling and no facial waxing for 7 days (or until the skin has fully healed) after microneedling.
Schedule your appointment for when you do not have any big events for 1 week after your microneedling session to allow healing time.
Schedule your appointment for when you do not have a workout that day and can avoid makeup and sun for the first 48 hours after microneedling.
Show up to your appointment with a makeup-free, clean face.
AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
First 24 Hours After Microneedling
May have pinpoint bleeding, peeling, redness, itching, burning sensation, skin irritation, pigmentation changes.
You will be red for approximately 8-12 hours
No exercise, sauna use or swimming pools/hot tubs (sweat can irritate the face).
No sun day of treatment.
No makeup day of treatment.
Do not wash face (you can splash face with water or use the calm spray).
Do not touch your face without washing your hands first (try to touch your face as little as possible).
Replace your pillowcase before going to bed.
No alcohol consumption.
Day 2 After Microneedling
Optional: If patient has dry and flaking skin, they can gently exfoliate to speed up recovery. Do not use a chemical or harsh physical exfoliant; opt for a clean washcloth. If your skin feels sensitive, do not exfoliate yet; the sensitivity and peeling will subside soon.
Hydrate the skin twice per day with Ageless cream.
Use calm spray as needed for cooling the face.
Days 3-5 After Microneedling
Apply high protection mineral based sunscreen daily, avoid direct and extended sunlight.
Focus on hydrating and moisturizing skin with Superb serum, Ageless cream and calm spray.
7+ Days After Microneedling
Return to your regular skincare routine.
Other Instructions:
Results can take up to two week to see.
Most people will need 3-5 sessions total.
Appointments are at least one month apart. Rebook your next session 4-6 weeks out.

No retinol, glycolic acid, vitamin C products on the face for at least 48 hours.
Wait at least 48 hours to apply makeup to the face but longer is better.

No facial gua sha or cupping for 7 days (or until the skin has fully healed) after microneedling.
You can come in for nano-needle in between microneedling sessions. Wait 2 weeks after microneedling to do nanoneedling. Nanoneedling between microneedling sessions will help with giving your skin a beautiful glow and increases product absorption allowing your results to continue to magnify.
Microneedling opens the skin, allowing your topical products to absorb more quickly. You will need to use less of the product to attain the results you are looking for.
