INFERTILITY

Need help starting your family?

In our acupuncture clinic, we see a lot of unexplained infertility. Unexplained infertility diagnoses are given to couples who have had western medicine testing that has shown that there is nothing “wrong” from a western medicine perspective (labs, imaging, semen analysis, hysterosalpingogram, etc.). These couples are devastated that even though they’ve been cleared with western testing they are still not conceiving, and they don’t understand why.

Before their first appointment, clients fill out a health form that’s very different than western medicine. We ask a lot of questions related to the menstrual cycle. We want to know how many days you bleed for; how long is your total menstrual cycle; is it irregular or too long or too short; do you have clots in the menses; do you get dark brown or gritty blood at the end of your period; how many days of cervical mucus do you have before you ovulate; have you confirmed that you ovulate with testing strips; what day of your cycle do you ovulate; what PMS symptoms do you have; and much more. These questions let us know a lot about your fertility.

If you are considering scheduling an initial acupuncture appointment for fertility you are likely already very aware of your menstrual cycle and tracking ovulation. If you aren’t, pay attention to the above questions so you can fill out your health form more completely when you schedule your first visit with us. The more complete your health form is, the better picture we have of how to best treat you.

Answers to How We Can Help

How does my menstrual cycle play a role in my fertility?
Let’s assess a patient with very light periods who only bleeds for a couple of days and doesn’t have much blood. Since our menses is literally the uterine wall shedding, this patient likely doesn’t have a thick enough uterine wall for a fertilized egg to implant into. This could result in lack of conception or recurrent early miscarriage. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal formulas can help with increasing her uterine lining so that conception is easier to happen initially and miscarriage is less likely due to their being enough tissue for the fertilized egg to stick to.

What if I don’t have unexplained fertility and I do have a formal diagnosis?
We can treat you too! More information as to why you’re having a hard time conceiving can be helpful for targeting your treatment.

What if I am going through IVF? Can acupuncture still help me?
Absolutely! We have experience working alongside fertility centers to help aide throughout the entire IVF process. You should start acupuncture treatment as soon as you can. We can assist through the egg retrieval process, leading up to transfer, transfer day, and pregnancy. We also offer a pre/post transfer treatment. Studies have shown individualized acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer was associated with a 55% increase in FET live births and 42% reduction in biochemical pregnancies when compared with FET alone. We may even be on the list of approved providers to do this pre/post acupuncture treatment onsite at your local fertility center. If we aren’t already on the list at your center, you can still request us. Click here for more.

Do men get acupuncture for infertility too?
Yes! We treat both men and women for infertility. Male factor infertility is on the rise. We can help with improving sperm analysis results as well as decrease stress and other issues affecting fertility. Click here for more info.

I’ve been receiving acupuncture from the nurturing touch practitioners for over 5 months now, and could not be happier with my results! I always feel listened to, my treatments are always catered to how I’m feeling that day, and I’ve seen the positive changes in my health. From regulating my menstrual cycles and balancing my hormones, to treating my injured knee to relieve pain and inflammation, acupuncture is my go to. In addition to treatment, the practitioners always go above and beyond in suggesting lifestyle changes, herbs, and other therapies to compliment the acupuncture. Thank you NT!
